Spring Gardening

Spring has sprung at our house.  Jeff and I have been spending as much time as possible out in the yard this year.  We have had such a nice (and unusually hot) spring, that it is hard to resist getting out and playing in the dirt a bit.

This is the third summer in our house.  The first summer, we let the plants grow to see what we all had in our yard.  The second summer, we tore out the infectious ferns that circled our house and cleared out as many of the weeds as possible.  This summer, we are embracing our yard and finally cultivating plants of our own.  I spent many hours in April removing old mulch, laying down weed barrier, and re-mulching our beds.  May was spent filling the beds with new plants.  June will be focused on prepping for our backyard fence being installed soon.  July will be spent designing what new plants should move in around the fence.  The rest of the summer is still up in the air on projects for our outdoors.

Jeff and I are also trying out our skills in growing fresh herbs this year.  We decided to start small with some basil, cilantro, and rosemary.  So far, our herbs are off to a great start and were just transplanted into their clay pots for the rest of the summer.  I'll provide updates as the summer goes on and also share what recipes we use our herbs in.
