Old World Wisconsin

Jeff and I decided to start our week long vacation a little early and drove down to Wisconsin last Tuesday, 6/30. We knew we had a lot in store for us with Sean & Kim's wedding to attend. However, before the festivities began, we decided to take a day to ourselves and visit Old World Wisconsin. Jeff is a huge history buff, so I knew this place would be perfect for him.

Old World Wisconsin is an outdoor museum where houses, stores, churches, school houses and other buildings from the late 1800's to early 1900's have been relocated to. The buildings have come from all over the state of Wisconsin and restored to the way they would have looked back in that time frame. Museum guides, dressed in character, work in the buildings and tell visitors about the building's history and interesting facts about that time. For example, in the main village, there is a blacksmith shop where a museum guide actually works bending metal making horseshoes and other metal products in the old-fashioned stove.
The museum is set up by ethnic background so you can see similar houses from German, Norwegian, Dutch, & etc. villages. The outdoor hiking paths also made for a great day spent outdoors.
The pictures you see are taken from all over Old World Wisconsin. We both had a great time!
